The Bread and Butter Thing

'The Bread and Butter Thing' (TBBT) operates a network of 111 food hubs across England, delivering affordable, nutritious food to 60,000 families in need.​ These mobile food clubs give access to low cost weekly shops, providing essential produce for family eating – fresh fruit, vegetables, fridge favourites and cupboard staples.​ TBBT are determined to do their bit to reduce food waste in the UK, while at the same time ensuring that surplus food goes to the people who need it the most.

The Old Leake branch of 'The Bread and Butter Thing' opened in February 2023 and takes place on a Wednesday. For £8.50 we offer roughly £35 worth of food each week including fresh fruit and vegetables, chilled food for the fridge and cupboard items, such as pasta and cereal.

Want to attend at Old Leake?

People interested in using TBBT’s affordable food service need to register as members and should

text 07860 063304 with their name, address, postcode and hub they would like to join (Old Leake).

Once registered, members receive a weekly text offering the food service which they can then collect

from their hub. There is no joining criteria.

What happens next?

Every Monday at 12pm you will receive a text message to see if you want to order, please Reply YES by 10am the next day (Tuesday) to order. It is vital you reply as soon as possible to this text as we can only provide food that week to the first 80 people who respond. Demand is high, so it is first come, first served.​

If unsuccessful, you will receive a text message to let you know we are oversubscribed for the week, you will then get a priority invite for the next session. This priority text message will come through on Sunday at 12pm.

Please don't forget, if you cannot make it to the hub then someone can collect for you. If you cannot arrange for someone to collect for you then please text CANCEL. If you don’t cancel you order there may be other people on the waiting list missing out and our food may end up going to waste.​ If you text CANCEL you will still get your invitation text the following week as normal.
